PG5 2.0 can not be started due to Windows Themes Service

In very rare cases (so far observed on one PC only) where PG5 2.0 could not be launched after its installation a relation to this phenomenon to the Windoes Themes Service has been found.

 

Symptom
The installation of PG5 2.0.110 or PG5 2.0.150 does finish without problems but it is not possible to start the PG5 Project Manager. Instead, a message "Failed to start PG5 Project Manager" is displayed.

Reason
So far the reason for this phenomenon could not be evaluated but by disabling the Windows Themes Service the problem could be solved.

Solution
By disabling the Windows Themes this problem can be solved (the Themes are used to define the same window frames for all application programs. Disabling the Themes make the computer a little bit quicker, beside of solving this problem).
In order to disable the Themes, please procede as described below:

  • From the Windows Start menu, select Control Panel.
  • In the Control Panel, select Performance and Maintenance.
  • Next, click Administrative Tools.
  • Next, double-click the Services icon.
  • In the Services window, locate the Themes service.
  • Double-click the Themes service.
  • In the Themes Properties window, change the Startup type to Disabled.
  • Close the Services window and restart your computer.
